There’s no question that Canada’s RM Auctions has moved to the high end of the collector car business with successful sales in Maranello and London, and with a planned event for Monaco next May. On October 28 RM visited London’s Battersea Evolution, selling 69 of 84 cars for a total of $18.2 million. Topping the sales charts at $1,020,034 was a rare 2006 Mercedes CLK GTR Roadster, one of just five built and the only one with right-hand drive. For those of us whose taste runs to the classics, the winner was this superb 1950 Aston Martin team car. It sold for a DB2 world record of $910,745. Somehow I can’t imagine it racing at the Goodwood Revival but you never know what will appear on the historic track, no matter how rare or expensive.
