2007 Cayman’s Nice but Classic Porsche 356A is Nicer

Porsche 356A Carerra

I'm currently test driving a 2007 porsche Cayman for About.com. It's a nice car and yes, I did once push it past 125 mph when the highway ahead was suddenly empty of traffic and yes, the sound of that watercooled flat six at 7000 rpm was music to my ears. But to be honest, there are so few opportunities to enjoy the Cayman's roadholding attributes that I kept wondering "what's the point?" Frankly, I'd rather have the 1957 Porsche 356A Carerra Coupe in this photo. It's for sale by Fantasy Junction in Emeryville CA; if you're interested you can call them at 510 653 7555 or e-mail sales@fantasyjunction.com. Silver, with red leather and a 356SC engine, the Carrera has a mere 37,338 mi on the clock and appears to be in superb, unrestored condition. With this in the garage for classic rallies and shows, I'd quite happily motor around in my 2003 Hyundai Accent GT. In its own way, it's just as much fun as the Cayman. More info on the Carrera can be found on the Classic Driver site.

  • I would always prefer the Cayman but not just for it’s top speed but for all the comfort in this car. Happy driving!
