A Magazine For Aficionados With Taste
Filed in archive Books by Philip Powell on November 16, 2006
While wandering through the Retroauto tent at Pebble Beach in August I happened on a display promoting a magazine I'd never seen before. AUTO Aficionado describes itself as "The Journal For Fine Automobile Collectors & Enthusiasts" and looks as classy as most of the cars shown within. Printed in large format on high quality glossy paper, this elegant magazine features superb photographs amid a graphic design that, frankly, makes most car mags look shoddy. When I commented on this to the gentleman behind the desk, he pointed out that the editor, Lawrence C. Crane, is also the art director, meaning that, for once, the A.D. gets the last word. The list of contributors includes highly respected writers, photographers and artists whose work further reflects this dedication to quality. Clearly AUTO Aficionado is aimed at a well-off demographic but you needn't be wealthy to enjoy the contents, which are sufficiently eclectic to attract a wide range of interests. So with Christmas coming up, would a subscription be a welcome gift? Darn right it would. Clicking here takes you directly to the "subscribe" page, which is currently offering a 25%-off deal.
