A Studebaker Worth Owning at a Price You Can Afford

Every so often I spot a car that I'd sell my mother-in-law to own if I still had one. The car, in this instance, is a 1940 Studebaker Commander
with "big six" engine. It came to my attention, and now yours, via ClassicCar.com. According to the Web site it runs well, starts instantly, and reveals no smoke. The transmission is a three-speeder with a working overdrive. Apparently the tranny works well, as do the heater/defrost unit and the windshield wipers. The body is straight with no rot; even the trunk floor is solid as the day it left the factory. The owner claims that all chrome and stainless is in good shape but admits the car needs a repaint. He also says the interior is original and is showing age, which is a nice way of suggesting that his Studebaker is a prime candidate for restoration. An Arizona-New Mexico survivor with only 40,525 documented miles on the clock, this lovely Studebaker seems like a bargain at $8,900. Even less in Canuck bucks but I'm not sure I'd want to risk driving it from New Mexico to British Columbia.Permalink: A Studebaker Worth Owning at a Price You Can Afford
