During a brief period in my life I was a Plymouth Valiant owner. I was living in Toronto, had just sold a Corvair convertible that I loved but my ex hated because drop-tops meant dirt in the face and bad hair days. The Valiant seemed like a technologically-advanced car thanks to its slant-six engine and torsion bar front suspension. As an automobile journalist I found myself in the enviable position of buying a Chrysler executive’s wife’s car at a discount and although an import enthusiast, happily purchased her Valiant 2-door, similar to the Hubcap Cafe image shown here (mine was silver). It was a short-lived romance as I was soon on my way to Manhattan in search of employment. Yes, I found a job, writing copy for the JWT ad agency’s Ford group, but that Valiant remains glued to my memory bank, just as it glued itself to the road in back-country runs from Mosport to home base. Thus I’m pleased to pass on some info via Hemmings newsletter regarding the formation of the Plymouth Valiant Club & Registry. This registry welcomes all Valiants, Dusters, Scamps and the early Barracuda models that were produced from 1964-’68. No Web site yet but for more information, contact Tom Shook, P.O.
