A Wild Ride Through Paris in a Mystery Car. Was it a Ferrari?

Lelouch Paris Film

Claude Lelouch is a French film director, best-known for the Cannes award-winning 1966 film A Man and a Woman, one of the great (in my opinion) all-time car movies. Ten years later Lelouch produced a 9-minute short that is nothing short of spectacular. He mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a fast car and had it driven, non-stop at high speed, through the streets of Paris at dawn. Legend has it that the car was a Ferrari 275 GTB, and that a Formula One driver was at the wheel. This fabulous short disappeared almost as quickly as it appeared and all of us who saw it wish that someone would re-issue the film on DVD. Someone did, however, get a copy and posted it on the Web where it can be viewed, albeit in a very small window. Ferrari inside has it. Be sure to watch the video first but then come back and read the comments below. Some of our sharp-eyed viewers have correctly indentified the car, the driver, and those fabulous sounds. Get ready for a shock.

  • Lelouch recently revealed that the car used was not a Ferrari but a 450SEL 6.9 Mercedes which was later dubbed with a Ferrari soundtrack.

Personally, I think it’s cooler that it was a big bargy Merc!

  • Ben is correct. It was the legendary 6.9 Merc.

Though either way it is one of the best 10 minutes you can have with your clothes on.

  • Phillip, Is it possible to get on your mailing list so I don’t have to strain my grey matter to remember to go to Favorites to read your excellent work.

Also, Is it possible to get the headers in something other than the color they are now? There isn’t much contrast and it makes them hard to read.

Keep up the excellent work, Stinky at Skunkpoint
