Actor/Racer Steve McQueen's Wurlitzer Jukebox Highlights Auction

Auctioneers thrive on selling objects that belonged to famous personalities, which is why a treasure trove of artifacts from Steve McQueen's estate to be sold at LA's Petersen Museum on November 11 will attract a big crowd and raise a handsome sum. We know McQueen as a film actor, race driver, and motorcycle enthusiast, but there was more to the man than that, as this collection of things he loved reveals. The sale, authorised by his widow, includes items as diverse as a Mills nickel slot machine, a cash register that McQueen had made for a grocery store in Idaho he'd hoped to open but never did, an extensive toy collection, five superb Western saddles, several hunting knives, his Belstaff
motorcycle jacket, his Mastercard, and the wonderful Wurlitzer jukebox shown here. I'm a fan of Steve McQueen's movies and this is something I'd enjoy owning if I had the spare cash and a place to put it: Bonhams & Butterfields, who will be conducting the auction, says it was one of his prized possessions. CD players may be compact and efficient but they'll never display the style an old-fashioned jukebox exudes.
