Admiring a Very Special Ferrari 250 GT SWB

There's a very nice article in the latest issue of "Autoweek magazine" by Jan Tegler, who also took the photo. It concerns a 1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB (short wheelbase) Berlinetta that had been customised by Pininfarina for industrialist Lennart Erickson. The 250 GT SWB, successor to the 250 GT LWB (long-wheelbase) Berlinetta, was planned to be equally at home on road and track, with a chassis almost 8 inches shorter than its predecessor. Its Colombo V-12 engine had been tweaked to deliver 250 hp. Competition versions won the GT class in 1961's World Sports Car Championship.
The article goes on to explain that Erickson desired a one-of-a-kind Ferrari, and sat down with Pininfarina designers to get what he wanted. It was delivered with a note from Enzo Ferrari stating that ""I have personally tested this car and am now at your complete disposal in case of any future assistance you may need." Happily this unique beauty still exists, looking and running good as new, maintained by current owner Nick Soprano of White Plains, New York. As"Autoweek's article" states, "Contemporary reviews list top speed at 165 mph, with runs from 0 to 60 mph in just a little more than six seconds." A good read, worthy of your time.
