Let's face it, you can't beat e-Bay if you enjoy window shopping for cars. The imagination soars and the wallet stays where it is. Good, harmless fun, right? But every so often one jumps off the screen and shouts "buy me!" Such a car is this 1942 Alfa Romeo 6c 2500 Sport Convertible (though I was surprised to learn that Italy was still making cars that far into the WW2 years). The Vittorio Jano-designed six-cylinder was conceived as the successor to the fabled 6C 1750 of 1934. Virtually identical in displacement to the 8C 2300 Monza, Jano's new 6C was simpler to produce in quantity and designed to be an inherently reliable and competent automobile, capable of providing excellent performance with large multi-passenger coachwork. Rare and desireable, this elegant Italian was bid to $400,100 the last time I looked, but hadn't yet met the reserve.
