If you’re a fan of the original Chrysler 300′s and their HEMI engines you may be aware that in 1952 a Hemi-powered Chrysler coupe was first among domestic cars in the legendary Carrera Pan Americana (Mexican Road Race) and that for 1955 Chrysler Corporation’s design chief Virgil Exner was readying a radically restyled line in which a Chrysler hardtop was to be powered by a 300 hp Hemi. Because of this engine’s horsepower rating the car would be badged as a Chrysler 300. A team of three 300′s was readied for the Pan Americana but the event was cancelled due to the risks, to both spectators and drivers, of open-road competition. The 300′s missed their chance at road racing fame but they live on in the form of a limited edition 1:43 scale model by Brooklin. This would make a welcome Christmas gift if you’re feeling generous, or perhaps with a little hint to the right person, you might find one under your own Christmas tree. Obviously, the company is not willing to spend the $$$ on an extra tooling when they can essentially get 2 “different” cars (the Challenger T/A & the ‘Cuda) out of the same molds etc. From a business standpoint, makes perfect sense.
