Another James Bond Car Ready For Auction
Filed in archive Auctions by Philip Powell on May 15, 2006
Following the successful sale of James Bond's Aston Martin by RM Auctions in Phoenix, a second Bond classic, a 1980 Lotus Esprit Turbo 1, is on the block, this time via eBay. This car was driven by Roger Moore during his 1980 portrayal as James Bond in "For Your Eyes Only." One of two used in the film, it comes equipped with double pinstripes, Alloy Wheels
, and a self-destruct system consisting of four C4 explosive packs (strategically hidden in both sides of the car, front and back), magnetic seals on all doors and trunk, and vibration sensors. Because of its original white color, the car would not translate well on film against the snowy background, so it was promptly sent back to the factory and painted copper, and had customized ski-racks fitted on its roof. Moore's drive is also known as the original Essex car, prototype for the Lotus Esprit series. A brass plaque inside is inscribed with Lotus chairman Colin Chapman's signature. Estimated at $250,000 - $350,000.Permalink: Another James Bond Car Ready For Auction
