The Art Center in Pasadena, perched atop twin peaks above the valley, is the world’s leading school of transportation design. I was once privileged to shoot a GM commercial there and was awestruck by the work being created by its students, many of whom go on to design cars for the auto industry. The Art Center Car Classic takes place Sunday, July 16, and will feature presentations by patrick le Quément, Senior Vice-President of Corporate Design, Renault; alumnus Henrik Fisker, CEO, Fisker Coachbuild; and alumnus Ken Okuyama, Creative Director, Pininfarina. Attendees also have the opportunity to tour Art Center’s campus and studio classrooms and see designers of the future demonstrating their craft. Artwork from celebrated alumni and other automotive artists is an added highlight. Of course it’s all about the cars, and this year’s theme is Pasadena’s own custom coachbuilders, Walter M. Murphy & Co. and Bohman & Schwartz. The graphic shows Bruce Meyer’s Duesenberg J Murphy Convertible Sedan, photographed by Michael Furman.

Thanks for the comment. I can recall when the Art Center was the only such school. It’s still the leader but now has inspired competition.
