Often, during my years as an About.com car Guide, I'd get enquiries from people wondering where they could rent a classic. I still do with Classical Drives but sadly have failed to provide a definitive answer other than pointing to a few quality locations in the US and UK. The long wait is over, folks! Thanks to Tony Merrygold, a leader in the effort to encourage more classic rental entrepreneurs, a new Web site has just been launched that acts as a directory to classic rentals world-wide. It contains details of almost 120 companies spread across 12 countries (13 if you count Scotland as a separate country) and over 1200 cars, with more being added each week. Tony says "you can hire virtually anything from an Alfa to a Veyron, anywhere from Australia to Vegas."
The site is a pleasure to navigate, making it easy to find a rental locale by country, by marque, or by type of vehicle. exotic cars are included so if your wish is for the latest Ferrari, Corvette or Lotus, you'll find them, too. There is also a comprehensive calendar of events provided by Octane Magazine that I (having no shame in taking advantage of every available resource) will use in future to point our viewers in the right direction. Tony's own company, The Open Road, is a leading classic sports car rental agency in the UK, while also providing advice to others who yearn to participate in this lucrative business. My only criticism is that most of the American outlets (and one in Canada) are exclusive to exotic sports cars that are as useful on our crowded, regulated roads as an F-18 in airline service.
Of Course, Scotland counts as a separate country!!!!
