Audi Keeps a Secret: The BBC Knows Where and Won't Tell
Filed in archive German Cars by Philip Powell on February 11, 2008

This Audi quattro may not be the most famous ever made but it is certainly the most valuable. Mileage: zero. The last right-hand-drive Audi quattro, it is kept in a secret UK location and stored in a sealed, dehumidified environment. Don't even think about trying to buy it. "Whenever we have exhibited it, we have received a succession of surprisingly high offers, but sadly this particular car, the quattro that started it all for the company in the early eighties, will never be for sale," said Jeremy Hicks, Director of Audi UK. Interest in the legendary sports coupe that pioneered four-wheel-drive for production road cars has revived, thanks to its being featured in a new BBC TV drama series 'Ashes to Ashes', set in 1980. Same color, same angular styling, though the TV quattro is a 1984 model, say the critics. Whatever year it may be, we North Americans can only hope that PBS brings the series to our screens where we can enjoy watching a great car and, of course, the usual high-quality BBC drama. Special thanks to Nigel Matthew for making us aware of this story.
