Much as I enjoy writing about car concours in Europe and America I'll be the first to admit there are thousands of local shows that can be just as much fun for entrants and spectators. We have dozens here on BC's Vancouver Island and though the cars may not be spectacular the easy-going atmosphere makes up for any lack of glamour. This past weekend the Victoria Old English Car Club gathered at Heritage Park, a few miles/kms from my home in Sidney, for a show that was unique in that it provided a special section for members who were eager to sell their cars and car parts. I was greatly tempted by the remarkably low prices asked for decent MGBs, Triumph Spitfires… and especially a 1966 Triumph Herald convertible with just 33,000 original miles and an asking price of $6800 Canadian.
Heritage Park is, in some respects, an ideal setting for a vintage car show in that it is a museum of farm machinery from an earlier era and includes a miniature passenger-carrying railway. I also noted ongoing construction of a pavilion for 1/4-scale streetcars. While I admire vintage streetcars and would go out of my way to ride on one yet, 1/4-scale? That's new to me however I'll update you as it happens. Meanwhile, what could be more pleasing than a close-up glimpse of an original Austin Healey 100-4 with a Triumph TR6 and MGA coupe in the background? Note the folding windshield but, please… don't forget your goggles.
I am trying to locate the British painted Austin Power’s car for a fundraiser in Tarpon Springs, FL on 8/8/09 to benefit women and children of domestic violence find safe housing.
