If you're into that "last-minute" state of panic this Christmas, here's something that will appeal to anyone who loves classic cars, and you can order it online or by phone. I'm suggesting a subscription to "Automobile Quarterly", one of the finest auto books available anywhere. Because it is published four times annually the lucky recipient gets to enjoy your gift all over again, every three months! Automobile Quarterly is a hardcover publication noted for quality printing and articles by renowned writers, backed by superb photography. For example, the current issue features an article about "Jesse Herbert Newport, Jr." Often referred to as J. Herbert Newport or Herb Newport, he began his career as an automobile designer, switched to industrial design, then returned to automobiles. Newport created elegant bodies for Deusenberg (like the Bohman & Schwartz Town Car above) and the famous Mormon meteor.
Other fascinating stories in this issue include Sam Posey: An Uncontrolled Force, Cadillac's Thirty and General Motors, The Patch Collection: '57 Heaven, and Squaring Motor Sport's Circle with Max Mosley. A 1-year subscription is $79.95. "Order it here" or call 886-838-2886 for a special $5.00 Christmas gift discount.

Take care of those AQ books! Buy a subscription! Be extra nice to your Dad! Whatever it takes to get that Sunbeam Tiger (Dad obviously has taste)! And thanks for commenting.

Oh I'm always nice to my dad ... that Tiger is a bit more problematical though.
Living in San Francisco, I feel I'm lucky to have a one car garage (and need it, since my sole car is a sportscar). So getting the Tiger would mean getting a house, and I don't know what homes go for in your neck of the woods, but around here ...
What I really need is filing cabinets, since years ago my dad gave me ALL of his back issues of Road & Track. Yes, I kept up the subscription, but from 1957 to the present, I got a filing problem.
I figure five or six more filing cabinets, and I'd be all set ... oh, and mylar bags and acid free backing boards ... how the hell did I end up being a librarian?
OK, out to the garage to go chase down that oil leak, I bet it's the front cam seal.

My father recently gave me all of his car books (ironically, a lot of them I had given to him over the years as presents). Included in that lode was a complete set of AQs.
The downside to this is now I HAVE TO keep the AQ subscription going, or there will be a gap (and we can't have that). And since an AQ subscription is ~$80/year, that's not exactly cheap.
But still, they are a very good resource to have on hand.
Now, if I could just get dad to hand over that Sunbeam Tiger of his ...
