Here’s an amazing event that I wish a brave promoter would try to emulate in North America. It’s an annual indoor Classic Car Show. That’s right… indoor! The NEC Classic Motor Show takes place in Birmingham, England, October 27 – 29, with over 1000 classic and rare cars on display from every era. Some 160 car clubs combine resources to bring vehicles from all over the UK to put them on display and, in some instances, offer the cars for sale. There’s a “restoration theater” with demonstrations, an “autojumble” where everything from nuts and bolts to rare accessories can be purchased, a “designs of the decade” contest, stage presentations, and a feature that I particularly like; an opportunity to ride in a classic: make a donation to charity and a car owner will take you on a 10-mile journey. Nigel Mathews is attending and has promised to bring back photos, so watch for them in coming weeks. Now, if only someone would clean up that incredibly cluttered Web site…
