It makes sense that if you're in the auction game you'll feature the most exotic and costly vehicles in your Web sites and promotional material. But as I'm not in the business of catering to rich guys, I'm often attracted to the more affordable cars. Hence my interest in the initial offering in RM's upcoming Amelia Island auction; a 1971 BMW 2002 that just happens to be a personal favorite. While working in Manhattan I was one of the first New Yorkers to purchase an example of this compact sports sedan and took it with me when transferred to London. How I lost it in a rock-group rehearsal studio venture is a different story but at least it went to the Spanish Consulate (amid tears of regret). This car is finished in Desert Tan with Chocolate interior, has been titled just once. Minor modifications add to the driving pleasure. Estimated at $12,000 to $16,000, it would be a nice buy at, say, $13,500. No fears, no tears.
