BMW Builds a New 2002 and I Want It

The New 2002

Oh, what I wouldn’t give to be the owner of this “new” BMW 2002, just completed at BMW’s Glass Workshop in Munich. I bought one of the first 2002′s imported to Manhattan, took it with me when transferred to London, sold it to cover costs in a foolish attempt at soundproofing an old church when some of the era’s hottest rock groups were seeking rehearsal space. BMW’s master mechanic Arthur Herrmann and Klaus Kutscher, head of the workshop, have built a “2006″ BMW 2002, starting with an original bodyshell from the 1970s, using newly-manufactured Mobile Tradition parts. BMW says that 90 percent of the inca Orange car’s components are new, quite a testament to the availability of parts for the legendary sports sedan. Congratulations, gentlemen.

  • I watched them building this for a bit when I was last in Munich. It certainly looks nice, and the orange is even more so in the flesh ;)
