Classic Car Auctions Get Heavy Competition in Florida
Filed in archive Auctions by Philip Powell on March 7, 2008

Although I sometimes prefer California I could happily dwell in Florida, escaping the cool and damp winters of the Pacific Northwest. Another reason for my enthusiasm is the number of automotive-related events that happen throughout the year and especially in the winter months. Florida classic car enthusiasts enjoy a veritable cornucopia from which to choose, including vintage motorsport, concours d'elegance, auctions and of course, some exciting contemporary sports, stock, and open wheel races. If I resided in Florida and enjoyed the necessary budget I'd be having fun attending these events.
There's plenty of action on the auction front, with RM's Amelia Island sale held in conjunction with the Concours; Barrett-Jackson's Collector Car event in West Palm Beach from March 27-30; and Russo and Steele's new Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino sale in Hollywood Forida, March 27-29. Indeed, one wonders if there's not some overkill, inasmuch as Russo and Steele is already offering a 50% bidder's fee reduction until March 17. classic car auctions
represent a very profitable yet competitive business so I don't condemn the participants for going where the money is but how much trading can one area sustain?[Image credit: Barrett-Jackson]
