Coming: The Anti-Football Run

Jag XK120 in Run

For some people New Year’s Day means college football on tv but much as I enjoy watching the Rose Bowl (and the Parade) I’d rather be out having fun with my car. Except where I live in the PNW (PSW for us Canadians) it’ll probably be raining and that’s not much fun although it doesn’t stop Morgan owners in Vancouver from organising a tops-down parade of their own. In California, where I’m led by the tourist bureaus to believe it never rains, vintage rallye organiser extraordinaire Martin Swig offers an event for lovers of old cars called the Anti-Football Run. Swig says he’s not against football, only against sprawling on a couch all day when there are so many better things to do. The Anti-Football Run is open to “interesting” cars at least 25-years-old, starts in Sausalito, lasts about four hours, and covers some great scenic roads. It ends with a New Year’s lunch and car display at Poggio’s restaurant in Sausalito. If you live anywhere near and have a suitable car, you can participate for a $35 entry fee: just click on the Amici americani della Mille Miglia link for details.

  • Just discovered this excellent blog (lest you think I’m just a very slow reader).

We did the Anti-Football Run this year in our Lancia…it was very good fun.

Eclectic mix of interesting cars, nice people, excellent route.

Our snapshots of the event are at:
