Detroit’s Beauty on the Lawns of a Mansion built by Matilda Dodge Wilson. Yes, that Dodge

35 Deusenberg

Of all the North American 2009 concours, nothing could be more appropriate than one that takes place in Detroit and honours the best in American design, especially when the industry is threatened with collapse. But the 2009 Meadow Brook Concours is more than a saving grace, dating back 30 years to when all was well in Detroit. Meadow Brook Hall is an historical 1920s Tudor-revival-style mansion built by Matilda Dodge Wilson (the widow of John Dodge). It is located on the grounds of Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. Most of the events take place on the grounds of the mansion itself, presented in a lavish outdoor exhibition. With it's opulent mansion, meticulously maintained gardens and lush scenery relevant to the area, it is a picturesque setting for this elegant event. The organisers tell us that the 30th Anniversary show will feature "The Best of Detroit", The 100th Anniversary of Morgan and a celebration of British Sports Cars, along with "The Class of 1959"; Rolls-Royce Phantom; Swoopy Coupes and British motorcycles. The Birmingham driving Tour will visit the Birmingham/Bloomfield Hills area. One major deterrent from buying classic vehicles like these is the cost of car or bike insurance
