Distracted by Test Drives and a Lamborghini Party

Phil with Lamborghini

So where was I on Tuesday? In Vancouver, unable to access wireless from my hotel room. Hate to miss inserting a blog but on the other hand it was a busy couple of days. The action began on Monday morning when I traveled to the mainland via bc ferries, then picked up an Audi A8L to review and test for About.com (that’s the stretched version of Audi’s uber-luxury sedan, by the way). Tuesday morning, with the Audi returned to VW/Audi Canada, took the keys to a Mazda RX-8 4-door rotary-engine sports car for another About.com test. Both days were drizzly when the weather Gods worked to compensate for last week’s unseasonable (rare for these parts) snowstorms by washing away the slush. Not what you’d call good conditions for testing but the Audi’s Quatto all-wheel-drive kept me out of trouble whereas the RX-8 was great fun on Richmond, BC’s Dyke Road, next to the almighty Fraser River. This scenic 2-laner has some delicious twisties that can be best appreciated in the off-season. On Tuesday evening I was an invited guest to the Weissach Motors launch party for the Lamborghini LS 640. That’s 640 as in 640 hp. And that’s me, looking silly next to the $500,000 (Canadian) supercar. Old age can be cruel.
