Be it ever so humble, there are few cars regarded with more affection by their owners than the Morris Minor. Designed by Alec Issigonis, the genius behind the Mini, the Minor was known for its excellent handling, which featured rack-and-pinion steering and independent front suspension by torsion bars. The extra-wide stance also helped. Minors were built in a number of variations, including sedans, convertibles, panel deliverys, and Pickups. At various times I've owned three and loved them all, thus it was inevitable that upon seeing this pickup with a custom-fitted top in one of the Barrett-Jackson auction tents, I couldn't resist taking its photo. A 1960 model, this Minor was first sold in Longview, near Seattle, and after just three owners underwent a total restoration. Other than the tires and wheels, the car is original, including its 948 cc 4-cylinder engine and 4-speed manual. The lucky new owner's successful bid was $26,000.
It seems like I go a few years between references to the Morris Minor. It was such a versatile platform, it’s a shame it never really took off.
