Once again Florida's Amelia Island Concours and RM Auctions combo has come and gone, with the highlight being this 1934 Ford Model 40 Special Speedster, custom-built for Edsel Bryant Ford, former President of the Ford Motor Company. It sold for $1.76 million, although an original 1931 Duesenberg Model J Convertible Coupe with coachwork by Murphy was co-top seller at $2.64 million, tied with a 1931 Model J Convertible Coupe, also featuring coachwork by Murphy. Edsel Ford was an exceptionally talented designer who inspired the creation of several beautiful automobiles, including the Lincoln Zephyr and Lincoln Continental. The Special Speedster demonstrates his flair for sporting, Euro-styled cars.
