A little over a month ago I posted a blog about the Nick Alexander Woodie collection, probably the world's greatest assembly of Ford and Mercury station wagons with wood-body trim. Remarkably, those very cars are going up for auction during the 2009 Pebble Beach classic car week. Indeed, RM Auctions has stretched its schedule in Monterey to three days, August 13-15, just to accommodate this extraordinary sale. Spanning three decades, the cars have been meticulously restored by Alexander's team, as close to factory specifications as possible. For someone wishing to own a Woodie (they're not growing such trees anymore) it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. For the rest of us, who simply enjoy getting up close to beautiful old automobiles, it's worth the trip to Monterey.
