Great automobile designers, in my humble opinion, rank up there with architects like Frank Lloyd Wright, clothing stylist Yves St. Laurent, and creators of elegant everyday objects such as those represented by Alessi and Gucci. Their work begins with sketches, mostly on paper though often, today, in a computer. Trevor Fiore, a half-Brit, half-Italian who was commissioned to create prototypes during the 1960's for Jaguar, Austin-Healey, Lancia, Alvis, Elva and Trident, most of which never saw the light of clay, produced many superb ideas, 34 of which have been unearthed and will be sold to the highest bidder by British auction house H&H on June 19. Fiore was born Trevor Frost but adopted his mother's maiden name to compete with the Italian design houses. He operated independently under the Fiore Design name during the 60's and 70's, then headed Citroen's design department in the 80's. Like too many artists Trevor Fiore faded into obscurity, but here's your chance to own a rare masterworks.
