Famous Indy Racer to be Auctioned at Hershey

Special Indy Roadster

Each autumn the Antique Automobile Club of America holds its annual AACA Hershey Fall Meet, held in the club's hometown of historic Hershey, Pennsylvania. One of the largest and oldest antique automobile shows and flea markets in America, it made its debut in 1955. A feature of the 2009 meet is RM Auction's annual Vintage Motor Cars of Hershey event, which this year will present cars from the Crawford Auto Aviation Museum. Heading the list is the famous 1949 Belanger Special Indy Roadster. This important racing car is known to have some early Indianapolis racing history and is presented in its blue and gold livery, the way it was raced in the Indy 500 by Duane Carter. It has also been featured in the motion picture To Please A Lady, starring Clark Gable. Such a lengthy history certainly makes this Indy roadster unique. The auction will be held October 8th and 9th at the Hershey Lodge. Personally I'd feel honoured just to step up and touch this vintage race car.
