Festivals of Speed Features Classic Cars and Aircraft, Florida Sunshine

Festivals Poster

My computer desk faces a window, thus permitting me to look outside when I'm not staring at the keyboard. Although it's green year-round here in Sidney-by-the-Sea, BC, the winter sky is normally grey, which can leave one yearning for the sun. So you'll forgive me if I'm envious of those who can attend this weekend's "Festivals of Speed" in St. Petersburg, Florida, for it promises to be a highly entertaining event, with plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures adding to the fun. Friday evening, March 23rd, will include a fabulous display of vintage and contemporary aircraft at the Avantair Hanger at St. Pete's airport, plus exotic cars, motorcycles and watercraft. Entertainment will include smooth jazz, a premium brands open bar, sumptuous themed food displays, art and jewelry displays, and a silent auction.

Saturday puts the emphasis on cars, especially the classics, concluding with a presentation showcasing award-winning vehicles as the owners receive their trophies. Honored marques are Jaguar and Aston Martin. This event takes place in front of the Renaissance Vinoy Resort and Golf Club, on the park overlooking the bay. Admission prices are very reasonable. For directions contact the chamber of commerce at 727-821-4069 or "visit their website". Heck, If I were anywhere near St. Petersburg I'd attend just to buy a copy of the beautiful event poster seen above… while soaking up a little of that Florida sun.

  • Jags defined beauty. When new, the XK120 and the E-type set the standard.

  • When I first saw the XK 120 I thought it was the most beautiful car ever made. Ditto with the E-Type.
