First-Ever Ferrari Auction Breaks Lap Record

I'm not surprised... heck, I'm not wishing I was wealthy, not wishing I'd been there. And any of us would erase world hunger if we could. But reality is that the first-ever RM "FERRARI: Leggenda e Passione auction delivered a record $46 million for 32 of the 33 cars offered. I'm not even surprised that the 1962 Le Mans-winning Ferrari 330 TRI/LM Testa Rossa pictured here on the block, attracted $9.4 million dollars. No, you are not dreaming and neither am I, remembering that the car was driven to a LeMans win by Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien. Felipe Massa's first Grand Prix winning 2006 formula 1
car changed hands for a mere $2.2 million. Top sellers of the memorabilia collection from Ferrari's archives was a 1:24 scale model of a F2004 race car used for wind tunnel testing, with a successful bid of $66,800, and an original Formula 1 steering wheel handled by world champion Michael Schumacher during the 2005 racing season that brought $85,387. This was RM 's initial Sothebys co-op auction and it obviously paid off as a combo of RM-style marketing with Sotheby's cool demeanor. Or to put it another way, a great Canada-England team effort.Permalink: First-Ever Ferrari Auction Breaks Lap Record
