Found in the Grass at Pebble Beach

Two Old Mercedes

It’s now my third day in Monterey and things are beginning to get interesting. I drove over to the Lodge at Pebble Beach to collect media passes for Sunday’s Concours and stayed to photograph a few of the Blackhawk Collection cars already on display. More on that in the next few posts but while strolling across the Peter Hay golf course, which is closed for Blackhawk and the prestigious new Retroauto lifestyle show, I came across these two 50′s-era mercedes sitting forlornly on the grass. Exactly what the message was I don’t know. It could have been an example of before and after restoration, or perhaps an opportunity to compare for those who like their classics in well-worn shape vs. those who prefer them pristine. Neither car is rare or special enough to appear in the really big show but I found them fascinating nevertheless.
