Gathering of the Flathead Fords in Florida

1935 Ford Coupe

Among all the great engines the auto industry has produced, Ford's "flathead" V-8 has to be rated among the best. Though neither sophisticated nor powerful in stock form, it brought V-8 smoothness to the low-price field when it was first introduced in the 1932 Model B. The flathead proved to be rugged, economical, and capable of modification to racing standards, even competing (albeit not very successfully) in the Indy 500. It had a long and productive life, appearing in variety of Fords, Mercurys, and (stretched to 12-cylinders) Lincolns until 1954. So when the All-Flathead-Powered Ford Show takes place next month in Lake Worth, Florida, hosted by the Palm Beach Region of the Early Ford V-8 Club, it should be a well-attended and colorful event.
