Poised on blocks in his garage next to a Lotus Seven, rear bodywork raised to expose the innards, John Carroll's 1994 Ginetta may not look impressive but believe me, this is one sports car that's born to run. And as soon as he finishes all the planned modifications it will, indeed, run like a rocket on rails. John readily admits that he gets more pleasure from tuning the instruments than playing with the ensemble (i.e: upgrading instead of driving) so perhaps when it's ready he'll allow me a turn at the wheel. I might be a bit apprehensive driving someone else's toy but having recently tested a Porsche Targa for About.com I think I can handle it. The Ginetta was originally owned by Chuck Kanepa, then went to Oregonian Bill holly before John Carroll purchased the car and brought it to nearby Vancouver Island in British Columbia. John's added a Jaguar independent rear suspension and inboard disc brakes and is carefully fitting an Alpha carb setup that increases the Ford Focus 2-liter Duratec's power by 40%. Oh, and in case John prefers not to let me loose in the Ginetta, he's got an old Morris Minor where I'd be less of a menace.
