Vintage Racing
by Philip Powell on May 22, 2006
If there's anything better than being a spectator at the Monaco Grand Prix, it just may be the Monaco Historics, which takes place on the prior weekend. Vintage race cars from all eras compete and it's serious stuff, too. Ignoring the value of these rare automobiles (and their own skins), owners let it all hang out, sliding through the turns in true classic fashion, giving no quarter to the competition. It's too late for 2006, of course, but the Axis of Oversteer site has an entertaining slide show that reveals the race cars in the pits and on the track. If you've never see a vintage race you're truly missing something great, as these photos indicate. Of course, hearing the sound of those period engines is half the fun, so even if you can't make it to Monaco, look for competitions in your area. Vintage Motorsport Magazine is your best source for North American events. Photo © Axis of Oversteer.
