In the world of fashion and design there could be few places better suited to a display of classic automobiles than Beverly Hills' Rodeo Drive. It's the street where the beautiful people shop for beautiful things at prices we average folk can rarely afford. It's been featured in movies, in magazine spreads, and in upscale ads. On Sunday June 15, Rodeo Drive will host its 3rd annual Concours d'Elegance, themed "Haute Wheels: Celebrating Car Couture." It is free and open to the public and will take place on the 300 and 400 blocks of North Rodeo Drive. This year's selection focuses on custom coachwork and exceptional style. Among the rare vehicles to be displayed is the 1938 DuBonnet Xenia Hispano-Suiza H6C Saoutchik Coupe, a creation of pilot and race driver Andre DuBonnet and flamboyant stylist Jacques Saoutchik. DuBonnet was responsible for manufacturing the independent suspension system, which was so successful that he sold the patent to Alfa Romeo, GM, Fiat and Delahaye. Saoutchik built the body of the vehicle. More than 100 other cars will be on display, including contemporary high-performance vehicles such as the Bugatti Veyron and a one-of-a-kind Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 Versace Edition.
