Heel-and-Toe? Not a Driving Technique at This Auction

You've heard of Imelda Marcos and her shoes? One-thousand-sixty pairs in the closet. I'm not here to speak on behalf of Imelda's extravagance except to say that the wife of the Philippine's ex-president bought her shoes, not to wear, but as part of a collection. Like classic car fans, maybe? Incidentally, architect friend Mel Satok, who has contributed some delightful photos to this site and often suffered my remarks about his ineptitude as a car spotter, met Ms. Marcos at a party while working in the Philippines and found her to be a charming lady. They didn't discuss shoes. President Marcos may not have been a collector of anything other than money but he did respect fine cars, enough to purchase a Mercedes 300d Cabriolet for state occasions in 1960. The 300d was destined to be Mercedes-Benz's last four-door production convertible. That very car will be offered in "Coy's Sports Car Auction" at the Ofenwerk in Nuremberg
, Germany, on 21st April 2007. Personally I prefer my women barefoot but if a few of Imelda's shoes were included I might to tempted to bid.Permalink: Heel-and-Toe? Not a Driving Technique at This Auction
