Race cars have seldom been more beautiful than this 1957 500 TRC. Originally owned by a gentleman driver named Bernardo Cammarata, it was raced successfully in the Targa Florio over ten years and won the famous Monte Pellegrino Hillclimb in Palermo, then driven by "Caterpillar," the pseudonym for Mario Tropia of Agrigento. It went through the hands of several enthusiast owners until, in 2003, it was sold to Bert Skidmore's Intrepid Motor Car Company of Sparks, Nevada, who restored it for vintage racing at an approximate cost of $470,000. The current owner purchased the car in 2006 and has participated in a number of events, including the Monterey Historic and the Wine Country Classic. Tech specs: 1,985 cc dohc 4-cylinders, twin Webers, 190 hp at 7000 rpm, 4-speed manual, 4-wheel drum brakes, independent front suspension, live rear axle with coil springs. It will be offered for sale at Gooding & Company's Pebble Beach auction on Aug 16-17 and if you're worried about the price, don't raise your hand.
