Hot Rodding, Swedish Style
Filed in archive Hot Rods by Philip Powell on November 09, 2006
Sweden is not exactly known as a country with a hot rod culture. But it is widely regarded for excellence in design of all kinds, from furniture to fabrics to architecture. So what happens when you put that design sense to work on a quintessential American automobile? You get the Caresto V-8 Speedster, arguably the best-looking hot rod ever to set wheels to road. The Caresto was created by Swedish specialist car maker Leif Tufvesson and was introduced at this year's SEMA show in Las Vegas. In spite of the traditional long hood/short deck it is mid-engined
, powered by a Volvo 4.4-liter V-8 which has been converted to run on ethanol and delivers its 340 hp through a 6-speed automatic transmission. Other features include a fully-independent suspension, removeable hardtop, temperature-controlled hood that opens automatically for additional cooling, and a retro interior. Six cars will be built and offered for sale. Thanks to Nigel Mathews for the tip.Permalink: Hot Rodding, Swedish Style
