How Can You Tell It's Spring? When the Vintage Cars Go Racing Again
Filed in archive Vintage Racing by Philip Powell on April 5, 2007

You know that spring's arrived when the "Sportscar Vintage Racing Association" revs up for the "Vintage GT Challenge" at Road America May 18-20, 2007. Located at Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, the track, at four miles per lap the longest road racing
circuit in North America, has a history every bit as impressive as the cars that will compete during the SVRA Spring Vintage weekend. This is tightly regulated, wheel-to-wheel racing, with a lineup that includes historic GTP, Group C & WSC, Formula Cars, Sports Racers, GT and Production cars, and Sprint Series races. The weekend includes all sorts of on-track and off-track activities with fun for families, including a Saturday tailgate party. There's something about such early season events that makes them special: perhaps it's the crisp spring air, or the excitement of watching historic race cars after a winter's layoff, or maybe just the socialising, for you can get up close to cars and drivers at vintage races. Of course, not all of us live close enough to Wisconsin to attend but for anyone within range it's worth the trip. The "Road America Website" has more.
