Aaron Gold's a good buddy who produces the About Cars site, which was my job for nine fun-filled years until I decided that old cars are more fun. He's just added a page entitled "How to Live Past 150,000 (miles, that is)": subtitled "Twelve Tips to Help Keep Your Car Running Forever". Now, you may think that Aaron's advice doesn't apply to collector car owners but I beg to differ. Not everyone who buys a vintage car is aware of the required care and feeding; indeed I've fallen into the same trap myself. Most of these tips fall under the heading of "common sense" but if you're a collector car owner or prospective buyer I suggest you print them out and pin the sheet to someplace handy. Be sure to add a headline labeled "What Have I Done For My Car Lately?"

The Accord had a mere 42,000 miles and ran flawlessly, the Jag had undergone a specialty dealer restoration focused solely on cosmetics, the buyer was easily swayed by appearances. Who wouldn't fall in love with that sexy interior? The Jag's gone (sold back to the dealer) and my current ride is a 2003 Hyundai Accent with 36,000 miles that I plan to keep forever. Yeah, sure...Permalink: How to Keep Your Classic Running Forever
