If you ever needed a reason to visit the UK, this Austin-Healey 3000 MK2A has to be it. And if you're lucky enough to win the Open Road's August contest it will be yours for a day, absolutely free. Of course you might want to rent it for the rest of the week or add the free day onto a week's rental, driving the big Healey along the UK's narrow country lanes. I'm in love with every one of them but this Healey is a favorite, the car I'd request on my next visit to a country where I was fortunate to work and live for a few precious years. "We collected it on Friday 30th September 2005 and drove it from Yorkshire to Warwickshire with no problems. Over the winter we worked through a small job list to make sure that it would be reliable enough for driving in modern conditions. All work is now completed and the Healey runs like a dream. The 3-litre engine has so much torque that you hardly ever need to change gears - it will go round roundabouts in 4th with no problem. It has full wind-up windows and a hood ('top' in North American lingo) that can be erected in seconds rather than minutes. The gear Lever was moved from the side of the gearbox to the top and the brakes were up-rated with the addition of a servo (power braking to us Yanks and Canucks)."
