It was in this car, a 1939 D-Type with twin superchargers and a humbling 485 hp, that Müller won the Grand Prix at Reims and Tazio Nuvolari won at Belgrade, before war intervened to consign these racers into the annals of history. The Silver Arrows of Mercedes and Auto Union cars reached speeds of over 300 km/h in 1937 and well over 400 km/h during land speed record runs. The superiority of these vehicles in international motor racing established the name "Silver Arrow" as a legendary name: Rudolf Caracciola, Bernd Rosemeyer, Hermann Lang, Stirling Moss and Juan Manuel Fangio, were among the equally legendary drivers who drove it. I've no idea how many dollars or Euros will be paid but I would ask the buyers to display the Auto Union where all motor racing fans can kneel and pay homage.
