Jaguars Meet at the Palace

Blenheim Castle

Now I ask you, who could resist attending a concours in such a setting? Certainly not me if I lived in the UK. This is the locale for the third annual Blenheim Palace Concours d'Elegance (along with a COYS auction) on July 14. The 80th anniversary of Jaguar is to be celebrated, when six cars from the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust collection will be on display along with Jaguar owner cars from all over the UK, arriving in their personal classics for the Jaguar Legends auction. Last year 160 cars appeared; this year even more are expected. Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust cars will include a 1927 Austin swallow, 1935 SS Airline, 1950 XK 120 (NUB 120, the multiple Alpine Rally winning rally car), the 1954 D Type prototype, 1961 E Type 77 RW, 1969 XJ6 Saloon S1 (PHP 42G) ex Sir William Lyons, and this year's sensational XKR. The COYS auction also offers a file of clippings and photographs relating to Claude Bailey, one of three men who developed the XK engine. Thanks to Classic Driver magazine's site for the backgrounder.
