LeMans-Winning Jaguar XK120C Reborn For America

Proteus C-Type

Unless you dwell in the UK (and even if you do) you may not be familiar with the name "Proteus." The 21-year-old company specialises in re-creating legendary sports-racing cars of the past, in particular the LeMans-winning C-Type Jaguar. Accompanied by great plans but limited financial capability, Proteus has now been acquired by rival Enduro Cars, which is great news in North America as the hand-crafted replicator of bygone sports cars will soon be coming our way. The Jaguar XK120C, with an aluminum body and 5-year, 60,000 mile warranty, is slated to sell for $133,000, little cash for one of the most beautiful cars ever to set tires to the track, and far less than an original C-Type would bring at auction. Future replicas include three more Jags – the SS100, XKSS, and D-Type – as well as the Aston Martin DB3S and the racing version of the gullwing 300SL: the 300SLR.
