Loewy Lincoln Continental: Perfecting the Already Perfect
Filed in archive Auctions , Lincoln by Philip Powell on January 21, 2008

The original Lincoln Continental coupe was a beautiful car, one of the most elegant ever to come out of Detroit. But famous industrial designer Raymond Loewy, whose work influenced several important Studebakers, felt he could do better. So Loewy had a 1941 Continental customised to suit his own tastes. Interestingly the designer didn't start from scratch; he simply took the existing shape and made significant modifications. It's hard to say whether Loewy's Continental is an improvement but it's certainly stunning in its own right. The car now has a proud new owner, having been sold at the Gooding Scottsdale auction for $451,000, probably a fair price for a one-of-a-kind automobile created by a renowned designer.
