I have a difficult time accepting this as a hot rod because it looks, to me, like a very traditional English saloon car. (That’s saloon as “sedan,” in case you aren’t hip to British automobile terminology.) In fact it’s a 1948 Rover Sports which someone has seriously modified to go much faster than Rover intended, then entered it in UK hot rod shows. Power comes from a Chevy V-8 but that’s all I know, other than it is now a lower Rover and sports very wide chrome rims. Being somewhat of a purist I often get annoyed when I come upon a vintage automobile that’s been upgraded with modern technology (although I can appreciate the rationale) and in this case should be teed-off inasmuch as I’m also a fan of English cars. And I really love those older Rovers with their rugged yet sporty demeanor. But guess what, folks? I like it! Maybe this is what Rovers should have been, with performance to match. The photo, by the way, came down through the Net via somebody’s Flickr album in which there are no facts whatsoever. Well done, whoever you are but a Rover hot rod?

I also prefer historic autos be restored to original, but at least that old Rover was produced in volumn. A Japanese colector named Shoujirou Hani has a “street rod” 1948 TUCKER! Only 51 were produced.
