Maybe it's because of my slim budget but I just love featuring humble vintage automobiles. Here's a perfect example, a 1964 British Ford Anglia Deluxe Saloon. It comes from the Bernie Ecclestone Collection, which RM is auctioning at Battersea Park in London on October 31. You will, of course, have seen examples of the fabulous classics in RM's London sale in this and other sites and they're wonderful to behold but hey, we could actually afford to bid on Bernie's little jewel! ...unless the celebrity association drives the price up: Bernie Ecclestone is, after all, the president (some might say dictator) of formula one. During the period when the Anglia was new, British Fords looked like downsize versions of their American cousins. Every detail, from the reverse-angle backlight to the hooded headlights to the grille was also seen on American Fords, Lincolns, and Mercurys. Still, the Anglia was a good car with a lot of character and would be great fun to show in North America, right-hand-drive and all. So, who'll start the bidding... and for how much?
