Peter Mackertich is a London-based architecture photographer who obviously enjoys classic automobiles as much as he enjoys old buildings. He seems to be particularly fond of French cars, if one can judge from his Web site. He still owns a British-built Citroen Light 15 purchased in 1967. However the photo I’ve chosen to illustrate his work is of a Dyna-Panhard taken in France, which wonderfully combines the essence of French car design with a street scene that just couldn’t be anywhere else. Panhards were rarely seen in North America though a few did end up in Canada, which I remember for their curvaceous lightweight aluminum bodies, front-wheel-drive, and flat-twin engines. With just two-cylinders you might assume they were not very quick but Dyna-Panhard’s successfully competed in the Index of Performance Class at the 24 Hours of LeMans. As Peter Mackertich’s site reveals, there are still plenty of Panhards alive and well in Paris. Incidentally, there’s no reference on the site regarding Prints for sale but you can certainly hire Peter or his London studio for commercial work.
