Concours
by Philip Powell on June 15, 2006
This year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance promises to be an affair to remember, for it will feature two French marques. French cars, like almost everything from that nation, tend to be both romantic and eccentric and time spent with them is inevitably an "affair" as opposed to simple ownership. Of the two featured marques one, Delahaye, is curvaceous and quick while the other, Voisin, is as individualistic as the genius who created it. Those that appear at The Lodge at the Pebble Beach Golf Course on August 20 will almost certainly be among the world's finest examples and considering the rarity of Voisins in particular make this year's Concours worthy of the trip and, uh, the expense (the cost of accommodation soars during the week-long celebration of classics). It was a French Delage, seen in the photo, that took Best of Show in 2005.
