Pebble Beach Retro Poster Returns to the Golden Age of Automobile Art

Pebble Beach retro poster

A major highlight of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance for those who appreciate automobile fine art is the annual poster. Now, however, there are three. One for the Concours, one for the Tour d'Elegance drive, one for the RetroAuto display of rare automotive collectibles and memorabilia. For 2009 the organisers called on Tim Layzell to create a RetroAuto poster honouring the Morgan marque, which will include participation in a tour to Carmel's famed Mission San Carlos led by none other than company chairman Charles Morgan. Layzell has chosen to illustrate a pair of Morgan three-wheelers on what appears to be California's fabled Highway One. Notwithstanding that the chances of normally seeing two such cars passing on that or any other road are as likely as finding a gift-wrapped Morgan in your driveway, this could actually happen during the celebration. Indeed, Layzell's work harkens back to the golden age of automobile posters in the 1920s and 1930s. The original will be auctioned for charity, prints will be available. This romantic poster is one I'd be happy to hang on my wall.
